Geckos are found in localised areas of New Zealand, often basking at the tops of bushes. New Zealand geckos are unusual as they give birth to live young instead of laying eggs. Geckos can be uniformly green, lime or yellow; or variously patterned with spots or stripes. Most species are vocal, communicating by clicks and squeaks.
